Supplements for Poorly-responding IVF Patients
A common problem for many of our IVF patients is diminished ovarian reserve (DOR). This happens naturally as we get older but unfortunately, can also occur at earlier ages in some women. When a patient has DOR, she will typically have a higher Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) level, a low Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) level or low numbers of antral (small) ovarian follicles. She may have just one or two of these findings, or all of them. Not untypically, women with this problem will require large doses of injectable ovarian stimulating fertility medications to achieve a reasonable response to do IVF (e.g. four or more mature follicles).
Embryo Implantation, How To Make An Embryo Stick
Pacific Fertility Center is re-engineering fertility care, helping women conceive pregnancy faster, easier and more safely. An embryo needs a home, an environment to live and grow, and to provide the support for pregnancy. Vigorously growing, combining the DNA of its mother and father from the egg and sperm, the embryo is the earliest promise of a new child. The embryo’s potential for pregnancy is expressed when it implants, forming an attachment to its birth mother and building the placenta, with the support and nutrition that are critical to a healthy pregnancy. Without implantation, the embryo’s potential cannot be fulfilled.

Improving the efficiency of fertility care, maximizing the potential of each egg to produce a healthy pregnancy, is part of the new fertility treatment paradigm we are instituting at Pacific Fertility Center. Comprehensive Chromosome Screening (CCS) is one method we use to improve efficiency of fertility care. CCS selects embryos that have normal chromosomes out of a group of embryos produced in an IVF cycle. The majority of embryos in most women do not have normal chromosomes, and stop growing a few days after fertilization.
From Italy to America - A PFC Embryologist’s Story
The first time I saw an oocyte was in the spring of 2000 when I interviewed for a PhD position in the Department of Medical Embryology in Rome, Italy. I immediately fell in love with these little round cells, and decided to dedicate the next 4 years to study their physiology while obtaining my PhD. It was only at the beginning of 2002 that I discovered something even more beautiful than the oocyte: the embryo. Embryos are truly magical as here all life begins, and being able to study and observe their development and natural changes is an immense privilege.
