Pacific Fertility Egg Bank - 3rd Anniversary!
As Pacific Fertility Egg Bank (PFEB) marked its third anniversary in August, we found much to celebrate. Our vision remains that of broadening access for patients who want to expand their families by using donor eggs. To that end, we recently celebrated our 100th embryo transfer and 45th birth, and are expectantly awaiting delivery of several more. In addition, we have also grown the number of donors available for selection as requests for frozen donor eggs increase.
Firsts in Fertility—A Historical Timeline
In recent years, the field of infertility has experienced a dizzying pace of change. Just a few decades ago, it was difficult to conceive of the many advances we’d soon witness in the world of assisted reproductive technology (ART). Since the birth of the first “test tube baby,” we’ve seen a virtual explosion of innovation—from major improvements in the embryology laboratory to advances in cryopreservation to greater and greater accuracy in genetic testing.1
Pacific Fertility Center staff presented two scientific posters at the Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), which was held in Lisbon, Portugal, June 14–17, 2015. Coauthored by Carolyn Givens, MD, and Erin Fischer, Bs, one poster was entitled “Do Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) Levels Predict Outcomes for IVF Patients Undergoing Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)?”
IVF Pioneer Dies at 104
Surgeon Howard Jones died July 31st at the age of 104. Despite an impressive resume, he was best known for what he achieved in retirement at the age of 70. In 1981, he and his wife, physician Georgeanna Jones, performed the first successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure in the United States at a medical clinic in Virginia. This was the same year PFC’s Eldon Schriock was a member of a medical team performing the first IVF treatment in Northern California.
