Dr. Liyun Li graduated Phi Beta Kappa from MIT and received her M.D. with honors from Harvard Medical School where she studied stem cell biology and cultivated a keen clinical interest in women’s health. After serving as a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Li completed her Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center where she trained under the guidance of some of the most respected pioneers in the fields of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg donation. During fellowship, her research focused on how hormones controlling body weight and metabolism affect egg and embryo health. See her most recent publications here.
In addition to female infertility and in vitro fertilization, Dr. Li specializes in infertility treatment caused by reproductive endocrine disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), adrenal dysfunction (e.g. congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Cushing’s), and hypothalamic and pituitary disorders (e.g. prolactin secreting tumors, hypothalamic amenorrhea). She is also a skilled reproductive surgeon treating conditions such as uterine septum, ovarian cysts, and blocked fallopian tubes. Dr. Li is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and board eligible in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI).
Although proud to be a Canadian, Dr. Li grew up in Shanghai, China, and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. While recognizing that infertility is an affliction that is blind to one’s ethnic and racial background, she is especially sensitive to the unique cultural and psychosocial implications of infertility pertaining to Asian families.
During her time in San Francisco, Dr. Li met her husband who is a consultant on infrastructure projects for municipal governments. They welcomed the birth of their daughter last year. Their mutual love for the Bay Area brought them back to San Francisco where they hope to raise their family. Starting from the time when she was a resident at UCSF, Dr. Li has always respected PFC’s expertise and mission. She is excited to join Drs. Herbert, Schriock, Givens, Chenette, and Ryan in their commitment to help women and families of the Bay Area and beyond in achieving their reproductive potential. |
