A recent Guardian articleCarolyn Givens, MD, on the growing popularity of elective egg freezing among professional women. The article covered much of the waterfront, from financial considerations to ethical, social, and emotional ramifications.
Among other experts interviewed on the topic, Givens explained that egg freezing had been available for cancer patients for decades. However, fertility preservation really took off with a wider population following an announcement by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine in 2012. Dr. Givens also went on to comment about the negligible medical risks of egg freezing as well as potential long-term psychological ramifications for women choosing to delay pregnancy.
