Pacific Fertility Center's Lab Director to Speak at Fertility Planit 2013 NYC

Posted on September 13, 2013 by Inception Fertility

Joining other world-class fertility and family-building experts, Joseph Conaghan, PhD, Laboratory Director at the Pacific Fertility Center (PFC), will be a panelist at Fertility Planit 2013 NYC on September 15. Sponsored by Auxogyn, Inc, the session is entitled Eggs to Embryo: New Techniques in IVF Lab, and will run from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. This is the second Fertility Planit event featuring reproductive experts from Pacific Fertility Center this year.

Fran Meadows, infertility advocate and author of The Truth Behind The Secret "Infertility:" A Personal Journey of my Journey to Motherhood, will moderate the conversation with Dr. Conaghan and the other panelist, Serena Chen, Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.

Internationally recognized for his work with human embryos, Dr. Conaghan will address new techniques that are helping in vitro fertilization (IVF) specialists select embryos with the highest potential for pregnancy success. He will speak on a range of topics, including time-lapse imaging and comprehensive chromosome screening of embryos, explaining how these have overcome previous technical hurdles.

Time-lapse video imaging identifies early the most viable embryos out of a group by monitoring timelines of cell division. Comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS) makes it possible to count chromosomes in a few cells from the early placenta, reliably and safely identifying embryos that have a balanced set of chromosomes and are more likely to develop normally. Dr. Conaghan and his lab are leaders in these arenas—participating in research and translating innovations into very high pregnancy rates at PFC without increasing the risk for multiple births.

With more than 25 years of experience in human embryology, Dr. Conaghan is frequently asked to share his expertise at fertility conferences around the world. Within the last year, he also presented at Fertility 2013 in Liverpool, England, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) Annual Meeting in London, and the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, where he won an award for the Best Scientific Paper.

Other topics covered at Fertility Planit 2013 NYC will include becoming a single parent by choice, prenatal screening, financial planning, and adoption. All sessions at the one-day event will be live streamed and later offered as videos on demand (VODs).
