Liyun Li, Biography

Dr. Li Discusses her Personal Journey into Fertility Medicine

Dr. Liyun Li graduated Phi Beta Kappa from MIT and received her MD with honors from Harvard Medical School, where she studied stem cell biology and cultivated a keen clinical interest in women's health. After her OB/GYN residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Li completed her Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) fellowship at Columbia University in New York, where she trained under the guidance of pioneers in the fields of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg donation. During fellowship, her research focused on how obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affect egg and embryo health.

Dr. Li returned to the Bay Area after her fellowship to join the other doctors at PFC, and has since then developed a busy and thriving practice. She believes successful fertility care comes from the formation of a trusting partnership between the patient and the provider. Therefore, she takes a patient-oriented and individualized approach to patients' care. In addition to her focus in endocrine disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and hypothalamic/pituitary dysfunction, Dr. Li sees women and men with a broad range of fertility needs. This includes egg freezing, IVF, comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS), and third-party reproduction using egg donation and gestational surrogacy. She is a skilled surgeon in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries.

Dr. Li is fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. Her language skills and her unique childhood spent in China, Canada, Europe, and the U.S. has provided her with the inspiration and the drive to take care of the diverse population in the Bay Area and from abroad. In 2014, Dr. Li spearheaded the development of the PFC's China Patient Program, which has grown consistently each year and earned a reputation in Asia as the place to go for premier fertility services in the U.S.

Dr. Li is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as in REI, a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI). In 2012, Dr. Li was awarded the Best Practicing Physician Research Award for her research presentation on Vitamin D at the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society (PCRS) Annual Meeting. Dr. Li is also the program co-director for the 2018 PCRS meeting. Dr. Li has also been recognized by her peers in the national survey "Best Doctors in America".

On the weekends, Dr. Li treasures spending a sunny day outdoors with her family and secretly enjoys being an amateur chauffeur for her children to their various play dates and after-school activities.
